The Golden Temple, also known as Harmandir Sahib, is the holiest shrine in Sikhism, located in Amritsar, Punjab, India. Maharaja Ranjit Singh, the founder of the Sikh Empire, reconstructed the temple in marble and copper in 1809 and overlaid the sanctum with gold leaf in 1830, giving it its iconic golden appearance. The Golden Temple is renowned for its practice of 'Langar', a community kitchen that serves free meals to all visitors, regardless of background. It stands as a symbol of equality, humility, and devotion, attracting millions of pilgrims and tourists annually. The temple's serene ambiance and spiritual significance make it a beacon of peace and unity in the world.
